Barbara Kingston Obituary

Barbara Ann Kingston

Brownwood

Barbara (Brackett) Kingston went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

She was born February 22, 1945 in Brady to William E. and Iris Brackett. At an early age, she moved with her parents to San Angelo. She attended Lake View schools grades 1-12. At Lake View, she was voted Class Favorite her senior year. Barbara was active in Lake View Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was active in school activities and in Rainbow Girls and became a Worthy Advisor.

Barbara attended both Texas Tech University and Angelo State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Education. She received her Master's Degree in Special Education. She later became an Assistant Principal. Over the years Barbara lived and taught school in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Odessa and San Angelo, Texas. She loved her students and enjoyed finding creative ways to help each child progress in learning.

While teaching in Odessa, Barbara met the love of her life, Jim Kingston. They were members of Odessa First Baptist Church. In 2001, they moved to Brownwood where they became members of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Jim and Barbara shared a tremendous amount of love and fun over the years. They enjoyed so many things together.

Barbara dearly loved her children, and she was always involved with their activities. When her granddaughters were born, she enjoyed following all of their interests. Barbara was very passionate about her friends. She truly cared about the people she knew and kept in contact with many people through the years.

In addition to teaching, Barbara worked as a secretary, became a district manager for Avon Company, owned and operated a personnel business and along with the help of her husband, owned a gift basket business. Barbara loved staying busy and getting things accomplished.

At age four, Barbara contracted the polio virus which affected her physical capabilities. In later years, she developed post-polio syndrome. Post-polio complications affected her ability to function and forced her into early retirement. Barbara was diagnosed with cancer in November, 2004. In 2012, she suffered a stroked. Her life was hard with her physical limitations, but she truly succeeded in many things. Barbara was so thankful and appreciated for Jim's love and care.

Survivors include her husband, James D. (Jim) Kingston of Brownwood; their sons, Ronnie Dean Anderson of Las Vegas, NV; Ricky Don Anderson of Mobile, AL, Lyle (Lori) Kingston of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter Sonia Kingston (Cliff) Koopmann of Converse, TX; granddaughters, Erin and Nicole Anderson of Theodore, AL; mother, Iris Brackett of Midland and sister, Beverly Scott (Doug) of Midland.

She was preceded in death by her father, W. E. Brackett in 2001.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10 AM at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow at Rocky Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
