SAN ANGELO - Mrs. Beatrice Martin passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, May 18, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. She had worked in San Angelo for many years at the old Aztec Cleaners in downtown San Angelo, Cornelison Brothers Cleaners, and finally retired from Comet Cleaners in Southwest Plaza in 1990-91. Mrs. Martin was born in Pernell, Okla., on Dec. 13, 1923. She came to Texas before she started school and grew up in the El Paso area. She was married to Ralph W. Martin in 1943 and came with him to San Angelo for the first time in 1948. Mr. Martin preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, her daughter, Patty Beech of Flower Mound, Texas; her son, Gary Martin of San Angelo; her daughter, Marty Tucker of Rowlett, Texas; and her son, Ralph Martin of Odessa, Texas. She had a very special place in her heart for her in-law children, Jim Beech, Gail Martin, Larry Tucker and Becky Martin. Mrs. Martin leaves behind eight grandchildren, Connie Mattfield of Flower Mound, Texas, Michael Beech of Big Spring, Texas, Timothy Beech of Oklahoma City, Okla., Holly Hukill of Dallas, Texas, Paige Keith of Garland, Texas, Brian Martin and Aaron Martin, both of Odessa, Texas, and Amber Martin of San Angelo, Texas. The grandchildren's spouses are Chip Mattfield, Amy Beech, Dawn Beech, Jimmy Hukill, Kory Keith and Amy Martin. Mrs. Martin had nine great-grandchildren, Hailey Mattfield, Sydney Mattfield, Natalie Beech, Lane Beech, McKenzie Martin, Autumn Martin, Carson Martin, Hana Hukill and Mira Hukill. Mrs. Martin was one of 13 children, of whom four survive her: a sister, Virginia Sanders of Whittier, Calif.; a sister, Juanita Carr of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Murray Stephens of Arizona; and a brother, John Stephens of Mountain Home, Idaho. Mrs. Martin was known as "Mammaw" to nearly everyone, including her in-law children, grandchildren and friends. She was an amazing woman who lived longer than any doctor had predicted. She died the way she lived - on her own terms and on God's time. She and her great spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Community Hills Christian Church on Knickerbocker Road with the Rev. Dr. Casey Heilman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the
American Cancer Society or Hospice of San Angelo.
