BURKIE HARLOW Obituary
SAN ANGELO - Burkie Lynn Harlow passed from this life to the arms of our heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, in Shannon Medical Center. Burkie was born the oldest of five children here in San Angelo on Nov. 12, 1942, to Floyd B. and Oleta Harris Harlow, who have preceded him in death. Burkie graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1961 and married his high school sweetheart, Ruby Fickling, on April 13, 1963. Burkie served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and liked to laugh because he was a mechanic by trade and the Army made him a cook. Burkie was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. He, his family and friends enjoyed the West Texas outdoors. Some of the fondest memories we have of Burkie are of the camping weekends and road trips that we all shared. Burkie was full of fun, loved his family, enjoyed nature and never met a stranger. We will miss his laughter, his unique views on life and his generous spirit. Burkie is survived by his wife, Ruby Fickling Harlow; by his sons, Craig Harlow of San Angelo and Colin Harlow and wife Bitsy of Nederland, Texas; by his sister, Genelle Massey and her husband, David, of Juneau, Alaska; by his brother, John Harlow and his wife, Joann, of Houston, Texas; by his brother, Floyd Harlow of Dallas, Texas; by his sister, Martha Tom and her husband, Jimmy, of Leakey, Texas; by his mother-in-law, Ruby Fickling; his sister-in-law, Janice Pelzel and husband David; his brother-in-law, Richard Fickling and wife Gina; his brother-in-law, Jerry Fickling and wife Holly, all of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Alyssa Harlow, Brittney and Mason Dagget, Brandel Allie, Madison Harlow, Lindsey Harlow, Caden Harlow and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Jimmy Tom, Van Waterhouse, Jimmy Piece, Richie Owen, Albert Valdez, Pete Bara, Joe Black and Donnie Whittenburg. Honorary pallbearers are David Massey, Dennis Stewart, Rosco Turner, Mike Hagen and Danny Glenn. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Johnson's Funeral Home. The family will celebrate the life of Burkie Harlow at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Johnson's Funeral Home, The family suggests memorials be made to the Buster Fielding Scholarship Fund at Angelo State University.
