WAXAHACHIE - Cathy Wells, 54, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Nov. 1, 2004, at 4:50 a.m. at her home in Waxahachie. Cathy was born in Seminole, Texas, on Nov. 13, 1949, to Thomas Lehman Teal Jr. and Lillian Hills Teal. She graduated from Richland Springs High School in May 1968 and Howard Payne College on Aug. 10, 1973, with a bachelor's of science in education and minor in English. She was a member of the Park Meadows Baptist Church. Cathy was a teacher at Waxahachie I.S.D. for 31 years. The W.I.S.D. Board of Trustees honored Cathy by naming her the recipient of the very first Teacher of the Month Award in January 1987. The past three years she was the librarian at Avalon I.S.D. Cathy and Pepper Wells, high school sweethearts, were married May 25, 1968, at the First Baptist Church in Richland Springs. They moved to Waxahachie in August of 1970 to begin their teaching careers. Cathy was always thinking and wanting to do for others. She tried to see that everyone was as happy as she could make them. The love of her life was her family, and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her husband, Pepper Wells of Waxahachie; sons, Scott Pepper Wells and his wife, Melanie, and Eric Pepper Wells and his wife, Deann, all of Waxahachie; four grandchildren that gave her so much joy, Ryan Pepper, Madison Chandler, Allison Grace and Autumn Deann; her mother and stepfather, Lillian Teal and David Perkins of Brownwood; sister, Terry and Dale McKinnerney of Richland Springs; brothers, Dr. Tommy and Connie Teal of Brownwood, and Craig and Lavonna Teal of Waxahachie; mother-in-law, Billie Wells Standlee of Richland Springs; sister-in-law, Mitzi Wells Supak of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also left behind her constant companion, her pug, Max. She was preceded by her father, Thomas "Tex" Lehman Teal Jr.; father-in-law, Frank Wells; and stepfather-in-law, Raymond Standlee. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Grady Cashion officiating. In lieu of flowers, Cathy had requested donations be made to the First Baptist Church Elevator Fund, Box J, Richland Springs, TX 76871. After four years with a courageous battle with cancer, we mourn for our loss, but are comforted in knowing Cathy has claimed her reward through Jesus Christ her Lord. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness." 2 Timothy 4:7. Condolences can be viewed at
