CHARLENE GILLETT Obituary
SAN ANGELO - Charlene "Chet" Gillett of "DoubleVision," 73, of San Angelo, Texas, was received by her Lord Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, after a brief illness. Her zest for life, love of family and friends and exuberant, vivacious personality will be remembered always. Chet was born Dec. 14, 1933, in San Angelo, Texas, to Ruby Jean New and David Solomon Rhodes. She attended school in San Angelo and graduated from San Angelo High School in 1951. Chet and her identical twin sister, Misty Marlene Boudreau, began singing together at 4 years of age. During their early teen years they had many unique opportunities which included singing on a weekly gospel radio program, singing in an adult choir in Newport, Ky., at the age of 10, and also singing aboard a ship going to Italy. They sang on KOA Denver, a weekly radio program, and won for 39 weeks. They sang at Chesom Park in Denver - a competition much like "American Idol." Along with her singing career she enjoyed a career in retail sales. She began selling shoes at The Bootery and continued for several years at Gabriels. Her love for people and dedication to serving others enabled her, along with her children, to own their own shoe store, "Chet's Shoe Boutique." She furthered her career in retail sales at Sears and retired in August 2002. After retiring she was able to return to her first love, singing with her twin sister. They became known as "DoubleVision." In January 2003, they sang on the Jimmy Fowler Show and were offered a singing contract to go to Nashville to make a Doublemint commercial. They sang in Branson, Mo., on four occasions - one of those being an appearance at the "Sons of the Pioneer Theatre" for the United States Veterans Association. They won the Solid Gospel Praise Award at the Hughes Brothers Celebrity Theatre, and their performance was featured on the Internet for a year and a half. They gave several local benefit concerts, including a benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims. This past September they were privileged to sing for God's Learning Channel on Prime Time Christian Broadcasting. She is survived by three of her four children - son Mike Gillett and wife Sandy of Midland; daughter Chery Fugazzotto and husband Michael, also of Midland; and son Larry Gillett and fiance Paula Rosslewis of San Angelo; eight grandchildren, Shae Criddle, Kristie Gillette, Candice Nava, Rachael Lassiter, Michele Gossett, Mary Kaye Able, Elisa Spurger and Becca Landers; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her survivors also include her twin sister, Misty Marlene Boudreau, and husband Roger; a half-sister, Carolyn Rhodes of San Angelo; a half-brother, Ronald Rhodes of San Angelo; and a half-sister, Liz Kay of Chicago. Her dearly loved pet dove, Love, also survives. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Jean Richardson; her father, David Solomon Rhodes; her eldest son, Gary Gene Gillett; and a great-grandbaby. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Hillcrest Baptist Church. The Rev. Skip Hill will officiate. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Family and friends' visitation was Sunday, Dec. 17, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Larry Gillett, Adrian Able, Clay Gossett, Robert Willoughby Jr., Michael Fugazzotto and Alon Fredieu. Memorials may be directed to Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Chet always brought joy to the world and to all who knew her. No one loved her children like she did. She was a unique and caring person. She will be sorely missed.
