David G. Bishop Jr.

Brady

David Gaston Bishop Jr., age 92, of Brady, Texas passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his residence in Brady. He was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Millersview, Texas to David Gaston Bishop Sr. and Jessie Lee (Stuart) Bishop.

A WWII Veteran, he served in the Navy as a Seaman 1st Class. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Sul Ross University, David taught Veteran's Ag classes at what became Howard College in Big Spring. He married Deryl Joyce Miller on Dec. 27, 1950 in Pasadena, Texas. The couple later moved to Victoria where he worked for the Soil Conservation Service. Relocating to Midland, he worked at Midland Production Credit Association. In 1963, David began full-time ranching in Pecos County. During his ranching years, he ran livestock in Kansas, New Mexico, and Texas, and had a reputation for being a fine horseman. He served as Superintendent of Sunday School at Marathon and as President of the local United Way. David was also a member of the National Lamb Feeders Association, the Brady Masonic Lodge # 628, and the First Baptist Church.

Funeral service for David Gaston Bishop Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Brady with Reverend Ray Ash officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Friends may view David's Memorial Video Tribute and/or sign the online memorial guest book at leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. Pallbearers will be Corey Dodds, Charlie Granstaff, Steve Holcomb, Clay Jones, Steve Powell, Kirk Roddie, Tip Ross, and Rod Young.

David is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years, Deryl, of Brady, Texas; sons David Gaston Bishop III and friend Kent Smither of San Benito, Texas, and Gary Bishop of Brady, Texas; sister Sally and husband Bobby Boyd of Throckmorton, Texas; sisters-in-law Eddie Bishop of Longview, Texas and Maxine Bishop of Marfa; grandchildren Matthew Bishop, Hannah Joyce Bishop, John David Bishop, Emily Kathryn Bishop, Kaleigh Elise Bishop and Abbey Claire Bishop.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Walter Scott Bishop and Billy Joe Bishop. The Bishop family would like to extend special thanks to of HOSA - Hospice of San Angelo - and their staff Darci Whisenhunt, Mikey Holloway, and Shawana Hackett for their support and comfort to the family and the excellent care they provided David in his final days.
