DEL RIO For the Christian, death can be faced realistically and with victory, because he knows that "neither death nor life, neither angles nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 8:38-39. We believe this scripture was fulfilled when Dorothy Askins went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the age of 86. Dorothy was the youngest of seven children born to Shannon and Rosa Babb Stapp on Oct. 31, 1923, in Del Rio, Texas. Her four sisters and two brothers were Rosa Ruth Sprott, Susie Maude Lorette, Myrtle Chandler Malone, Calista June Stapp, Hugh Shannon Stapp and J. D. Stapp, all of which preceded her in death. Dorothy and the late A.C. were married in Del Rio, Texas, in 1943. She was a faithful and devoted wife for 54 years until his death in March 1996. In the early years of their married life, Dorothy and AC raised Angora goats and Rambouillet sheep, but in later years, the sheep were replaced with more Angora goats. Dorothy was raised on the ranch located on the west side of the Pecos River, known as the old home ranch of Shannon and Rosa Stapp, which has been family owned since 1910. Influenced by her parents' "pioneer spirit," strong work ethics and a devotion to a lifelong love of ranching and the outdoors she remained at the ranch until her death. She traveled 20 miles of dirt road each Sunday to attended services at Pumpville Baptist Church. The church was dedicated in 1947 of which she and A.C. were charter members. Dorothy is survived by her three children and their spouses, Allen Askins of Dryden, Texas, Gary Askins and Nannine of San Angelo, Texas, and Marsha and Mike Young of Del Rio, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are her four grandsons, Clint Askins, Clay Young, Aaron and Alvin Askins, nephew Hugh Sprott and friend Travis Parker. Dorothy will be missed by all very much but comfort can be found in the Word of Jesus which says "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you" John 14:18. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations can be made to the Pumpville Baptist Church, Pumpville, Texas. Chapel service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements with G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home of Del Rio LTD, 114 Fletcher Drive, Del Rio, Texas, 78840.
