Douglas Wayne Modgling

SAN ANGELO Douglas Wayne Modgling, age 83, of San Angelo, passed away on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at his residence. Wayne was born March 29, 1929, in Bronte, Texas, to Walter and Nora Herron Modgling. Wayne's early education was in Bronte and the remaining in San Angelo at the San Angelo High School and San Angelo Junior College. He served two years in the National Guard. He married Marilyn Mayer on June 18, 1949. They have lived their entire married life of 63 years here in San Angelo. Wayne was the devoted and beloved patriarch of his family, always putting them first. Wayne began his early working years in the circulation department at the San Angelo Standard-Times newspaper. In 1964, he and Marilyn began working together in property management until 1992, when they retired. Wayne, "Spider", was an avid golfer. He treasured the hours he spent on the course with his "golfing buddies" at Bentwood Country Club and Riverside Golf Course. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Nora Modgling; sisters Iva Dell Owen and baby Mona Blanche Modgling; and numerous cousins. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters Nancigail Economidis and husband George, Susan Wilson and husband Carl; granddaughters Hollianne Economidis and Jennifer Rae Dunnam; great-granddaughter Gracelyn Gail Economidis; his brother, Don Modgling and wife Clara, "Kiki" of Houston; niece Yvonne Bledsoe and husband Nick of Tyler and their sons, David and Bryan; numerous cousins; and sister-in-law Marcella Staewen, her daughters, Valerie Williams of Lubbock and Deborah Brooks of San Antonio and their children. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mac Roller officiating and services under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. The Modgling family would like to thank Dr. Walter Hewell and Lighthouse Hospice, especially Helen, for their loving care provided to Wayne and his family.
