Clayton, or "Sir Clayton" as some of his students secretly called him was indeed "one of a kind." Sometimes there are just no words to do justice in describing another human being. There are those people among us who give so much of themselves that their impact on the lives of others is both undefinable and immeasurable. That was Clayton Miller.
As a young man in the 1960s I had the great opportunity to have Clayton as both a Chemistry and Physics teacher as San Angelo Central High School. To his students, there was never any doubt about Clayton's commitment to education and personal growth. He did not teach us he taught us how to think. As a chemistry and physics teacher one of his favorite sayings was solve for the units. Those who understand the concept know that lesson serves you all of your life in many more ways than chemistry and physics.
More importantly, I was welcomed in Clayton and Carolyn's home during that time period and spent many hours with the two of them talking about life, its challenges and rewards. They were just starting their life as a young married couple and the admiration and love between the two of them was so enjoyable to watch.
You never had to wonder where Clayton stood on an issue. He was a decisive man with strong beliefs. He could pontificate at times and over drive his point in a discussion, ok let's just say argument. But, on more than one occasion I watched Carolyn cuts her eyes in a more than distinctive fashion and say, Now Clayton and I would watch him retreat a little. They were a joy to be around.
Carolyn has been gone many years and I know he missed her dearly. My condolences and thoughts to their family on Clayton's passing, but two of the best people I have ever known are together again.

Clayton was a wonderful man who was respected by many and left such a such a positive imprint on so many lives. I have many good memories of times with the Miller family that are cherished. So sorry that I couldn't be at the services as I was out of town when I heard of his passing and services. Hugs and prayers for all.
