FAYE GUNTER Obituary
Faye Maddux Gunter passed away peacefully at her home Monday, Jan. 5, 2004. She was born on Sept. 5, 1913, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Roy and Minnie Pennington Maddux. Faye was Methodist by faith. She lived in Paris, Texas, Christoval, and most of her life in San Angelo. Her school years were spent in San Angelo, graduating from high school in 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Gunter were married in 1933 and owned Gunter Wholesale Company in San Angelo. Faye was a talented artist and shared that talent through the years in her community. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain in her home, and was an outstanding seamstress for her children. She was a much beloved mother and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Gunter; her parents, Roy and Minnie Maddux; brothers, Paul Maddux, Doyle Maddux and James Maddux; son-in-law, Brig. Gen. Robert Chapman; and her aunt and namesake, Naomi Maddux, a longtime teacher in San Angelo. She is survived by her three children, George Gunter and his wife, Jeanette, of Carbondale, Colo.; daughters, Helen Gunter Chapman of Shalimar, Fla., and Carolyn Faye Gunter of San Angelo; by three grandchildren, Col. Robert E. Chapman II and his wife, Jennifer, of Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, S.C., Dr. Diane Sullivan and husband, Vince, of San Antonio, Jennifer Havens and husband, Jeff, of Flower Mound; and by great-grandchildren, Chelsea Faye and Shelby Chapman, Shane, Blaire and Bailey Sullivan, and Matthew and Mallory Pumphrey. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Sidener officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Col. Robert Chapman II, Kenneth Gunter, Jeff Havens, Alvin Hay, Jon Peterson and Vince Sullivan.
