FLORA GREEN Obituary
SAN ANGELO - Flora Lee King Green, 89, of San Angelo died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, in a local care center. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, in Belvedere Memorial Park. Flora Lee was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Salty Community, Milam County, Texas to Thomas C. and Cora Tucker King. Flora was the last born sibling of this family of four brothers, Homer, Roy, David and Travis "Bill" King, and two sisters, Annie Parker and Berttie Sklenarik, all of whom preceded her in death. Flora worked at various family homes in her early years cooking meals, washing, ironing clothes and other duties as getting their children dressed for school. All of this for 50 cents a day plus room and board. In the late '40s and the '50s, Flora was a driver on a route for the San Angelo Standard-Times, delivering newspapers from San Angelo to Miles, Rowena, Ballinger, Wingate, Winters, Bronte, Robert Lee and back to San Angelo. Flora called this job the Pony Express, because not only did she deliver newspapers, she also picked up the U.S. Mail bags from the post offices along her route and brought them back to San Angelo central distribution for postmark. On July 1, 1977, Flora and Melvin "Bill" Green married. They were married for 26 years. Bill preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2003. Survivors include one stepson, Frank Green and wife LaDell of Goodyear, Ariz.; granddaughter Kelli Barker and husband Charles of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandson Sean Green of Goodyear, Ariz.; niece Glenda Campbell of Garland; nephews Johnny King and wife Kathy of Miles, Tommy Parker, Curtis Parker and wife Charlotte, all of Burnet, Robert Sklenarik and wife Jeanne of Miles, and Richard Sklenarik and wife Irene of San Angelo; her very special pet poodle Miss Sadie; and her very special visits from Mr. Jacob Lopez and Mr. Vaughn Marshall. For the past four years plus she has been resident of Park Plaza Nursing Center for which we the family would like to thank the staff for taking care of our Mom, our Aunt and also a special thanks to Jean, Alice, Mary and the Hospice of San Angelo staff. In lieu of flowers the family would request that memorials be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Association or Hospice of San Angelo.
