San Angelo

Francis E. Woner, 91, of San Angelo, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1926 to Herbert and Eunice (Swigart) Woner in Cameron, Missouri. Francis worked in the U.S. Postal system for over 40 years, retiring as Postmaster in Roscoe, Texas. On Dec. 5, 1947 he married Jacqueline Lorraine Jenkins in Sweetwater. They shared 68 years together until her passing on June 30, 2016.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Sweetwater, Lion's Club, Elk's, VFW, Rotary and Roscoe Citizen of the Year. He served his country as a U.S. Army Sergeant in WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son, Johnny L. Woner.

Francis is survived by his son, Frank G. (Marien Sharp) Woner of San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Jim) Barden, Cody (Jessica) Dunn, Brian (Sadie) Woner; great-grandchildren, Trevor Dunn, Chloe Dunn, Mia Winters, Weston Winters, Wyatt Woner and Hayes Woner; sisters-in-law who he and Jackie raised as their own daughters, Ruth Freeman, Frances Marie Constance and Jean Burnett; and best friends, Henry Stewart and Richard (Denise) Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Charles Smith, officiating.

Memorials are suggested to VFW Post 2479 of Sweetwater at 217 Avenger Field Road, Sweetwater, Texas, 79556.
