Glen Carr Obituary

SAN ANGELO - Glen Carr, 79, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, in Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in Shaffer Funeral Home's Sherwood Way chapel.
Glen was born July 3, 1935. He graduated from Cisco High School Class of 1954. He went to work for The Palace Theater and Joy Drive Inn-In Cisco when he was 14-years old. Glen's mentor was his Uncle Haydan Cooper. He joined the Texas National Guard in 1955 and served more than eight years reaching the grade of SPC5/E5.
He moved to San Angelo in 1963, and began working at Goodyear Proving Grounds as a driver and mechanic. While at Goodyear Glen was responsible for establishing and building the Goodyear Fire Brigade. He retired from Goodyear in 1999 after a 33 year career.
Glen belonged to the San Angelo Car Club beginning in 1976. He was the caretaker for the Texas Theater in downtown San Angelo and was a consultant to the Texas Historic Commission on Movie Theaters. He knew and could tell you the history on virtually any movie theater in the state of Texas. He loved to travel and made many trips to Colorado. He loved his time in the car club and taking care of his 1954 Chevrolet on drives.
Glen was well known and respected in both Cisco and San Angelo and was loved dearly by his friends and family and was extremely proud of being a great grandfather and had a deep affection for his grandchildren.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 42 years, Charlene Carr; and sister Frances Cooper.
He is survived by his sons, James Carr of Midland and Jon Mark Carr and wife Mi Sun of Toano, Virginia; grandchildren Daniel Carr and wife Kathleen of San Antonio and Matthew Carr and Michael Carr, both of Toano, Virginia; and great grandchild, Aubrey Carr.
The Carr family would like to thank Ms. Georgia Walker for her devoted love and care for Glen over the last two years and Hospice of San Angelo for their devotion and care for Glen in his final days.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hospice of San Angelo.

Glen was my long time friend of 68 years. We kept in touch and took up where we left off at each time we talked. He will be missed by me and others whose life he touched. My warm blessings to the family and Georgia.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Glen, but we traded several e-mails about our mutual interest: San Angelo movie theaters. His knowledge was phenomenal. He had offered to give me a personal tour of the Texas Theater but that never panned out. I hope his research will be passed on to others who will also share it with those who are interested in local history.

Rest in peace.
