MRS. JOSEFA CARMELITA PEREZ HERNANDEZ

Josefa Hernandez, 84, of San Angelo, passed away March 23, 2003, at her home on the Twin Mountains. Josefa was born on March 4, 1919, in San Salvador El Seco, a small town outside of Pueba, Mexico. Josefa was loved and admired by her family and many dear friends. Over 50 years ago, she became a part of the family of Edith and Homer Nickel. Throughout the years, Lydia and Ricardo Fuentes were her loyal and caring friends. Josefa was faithful to her church and was voted "Family of the Year" in 2002. She was referred to as one of the church Angels. Josefa wanted to see the best in everyone, giving encouragement and love to all. She had a home in Puebla, Mexico, that she visited every summer. She will always be remembered for her love of gardening and authentic Mexican cooking. Everyone was so grateful to have had her in their lives. She is preceded in death by parents, Lucas Hernandez and Rafugio Castillo; and son, George Enrique Hernandez. She is survived by a granddaughter, Christina Hernandez of Dallas, and Julie Henjum, mother of Christina, of Grapevine; nephew, Jerardo Acebedo of Mexico City, Mexico; godchild, Angelica Meza Martinez of San Angelo. Serving as pallbearers will be Richardo Fuentes, Junieal Ponces, Daniel Rodriquez, Preston and Phillip Smith and Armondo Travino. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Terry Brenon officiating.
