Kathleen Amos Obituary

EDEN Kathleen Bishop Amos passed away in Eden on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. She was 71. Kathy was born March 19, 1943, in San Angelo, to R.A. (Allen) and Josie Baylor Bishop of Kimble County, Texas. Her father ranched there until 1954, when the family purchased and ran a store at Cleo, also in rural Kimble County. Kathy graduated from Junction High School in 1961, and spent a year attending business school in Brownwood before returning to Cleo. For the next several years, she worked at a tax office in Junction. She married Allen Amos of Menard on Aug. 20, 1967. Their son, Rob, was born there in 1969. For the next 10 years, Kathy was a homemaker and a mom. In March 1979, the family moved to Eden and purchased The Eden Echo. Kathy served as the paper's editor until she retired in 2007. She and Allen ran the business together until he was elected Concho County Judge in 1994, then their son, Rob, joined the staff for 10 years until he became a teacher at Grape Creek High School. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Josie Bishop. She is survived by her husband, Judge Allen Amos of Eden; and their son, Rob Amos and daughter-in-law Elisha of San Angelo. She has two step-grandchildren, Melinda Parker and Paul Parker, both of San Angelo. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Eden Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in Bear Creek Cemetery, near her childhood home of Cleo. Arrangements are by Eden Funeral Home.
