Lawrence Link Obituary

Lawrence James Link

Granbury

I was born in Oklahoma City in St. Anthony's Hospital on May 17, 1938, to my parents, Howard and Julia Link.

I married a beautiful girl, Carol Allen, on July 5, 1963. She gave me two beautiful girls, Susan Kay and Jennifer Ann, and one great boy, Daniel Lawrence. These three married great spouses: Jeff Boone, Sean Fagan and Jackie Hestily; then they gave me seven wonderful grandchildren: Brian and Paige Boone, Peter and Erin Fagan, and Jason, Alison and Riley Link.

I went through elementary school at Bishop John Carroll School, then in the ninth grade I went to St. Gregory's in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I went to Catholic High, now Bishop McGuinness High School, through the 12th grade. I graduated from college from the now-named University of Central Oklahoma. I served in the U.S. Army before being married. I was in the advertising/outdoor advertising business since 1963. I have lived a wonderful life and I have no regrets. I say goodbye to my family and friends and I say hello to my Savior. May God bless us all.

A note from the family: We will always remember our beloved brother, husband, Dad and Pa. Trying to come up with appropriate adjectives for him resulted in "mover-shaker-doer," "humble" and "irreplaceable." His pride and joy were his grandchildren. He cheered them on at sporting events, entertained them with boat rides and snow cones and always listened when they spoke. He loved his friends in a manner most reserve for close family and kept in contact with friends far and wide through hand written Christmas cards, e-mail and occasionally an unannounced visit. He would help the most unlikely stranger if given the opportunity. Countless people were touched by his humble, generous heart. Over the years he was a successful owner and partner in several businesses, starting with San-Tex, then Big-Tex, Golden Plains, Oklahoma Outdoor, Dome and Cosmos, just to name a few-leaving his mark and wheeling and dealing across Texas and Oklahoma. He also loved his toys-over the years, rarely was he far away from his golf clubs, Harley, boat, airplane, truck or tractor. There was never a dull moment when Larry was around-no standing still-unless a martini or Stroh's Light was at hand. He earned the nickname "Dart" because he was always headed off to the golf course, a vacation, to "check on boards" or a visit to family or friends. In the coming days, weeks, months and years, we will still be repeating "Larry-isms" such as "Children should be seen and not heard" and "Nothing good happens after midnight" and laughing at the numerous stories of his childhood in Oklahoma City, where he palled around with his fellow John Carroll buddies. His legacy will live on through these stories and his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Judy Link.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol of Granbury, Texas; his children and grandchildren: Jeff, Susan, Brian and Paige Boone of San Angelo, Texas, Sean, Jennifer, Peter and Erin Fagan of Austin, Texas, and Danny, Jackie, Jason, Alison and Riley Link of Pflugerville, Texas; and his brother Bill Link and wife Linda of Granbury, Texas. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, godchildren and more friends than you can count.

A rosary will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Granbury, Texas, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thereafter, at 2 p.m. Thursday, May, 19, 2016, there will be a funeral mass and burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to People Helping People, 306 Kings Plaza, Granbury, Texas 79049 or the Hood County Senior Center, 501 E. Moore St., Granbury, TX 76048.
