Nancy Howard Obituary

SAN ANGELO Over the last week home was very important to our mother Nancy Duncan Howard. Her parents, G.E. and Vyvien Duncan brought her home for the first time on May 16, 1944. She spent those early years living in and loving San Saba County. She grew up in Algerita, Texas at a home near the river. She and her school friends spent time exploring the beautiful landscape, looking for arrowheads and watching for activity in the cemetery that was adjacent to her childhood home. The family moved to Brady, Texas and began a new adventure. This is where Nancy met the love of her life, Larry Wayne Howard. They were married on June 15, 1963, and established a new home together. In the coming years they welcomed a daughter, Sara Howard and later a son, Larry Shay Howard. Nancy was well known for the in-home day care that she owned and operated for over 40 years. She helped to raise hundreds of McCulloch County children and treasured every one of them. The trust these families placed in her was an honor and she worked diligently at providing a loving Christian home for each one of them while they were entrusted to her care. The sweet words of these little people praying at meal time and singing hymns together brought her much joy and she felt this was her way of furthering the love of the Lord. Nancy participated in Beta Sigma Phi sorority for more than 20 years and loved helping with the Miss Heart of Texas Pageant. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. On Wednesday, July 30, 2014, while sitting in her living room with one of her favorite companions, a Jack-Russell terrier named Spot, Nancy Howard went home to Heaven to join those loved ones already there and to begin her new adventures. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, G.E and Vyvien Duncan and her husband, Larry Howard. She is survived by daughter Sara Howard; and son Shay Howard. She is also survived by her two best friends, Marilyn Mayer and Teresa Leifeste whom she truly considered each other more a sister and family than a friend. At Nancy's choosing there will be no formal services. It is her request that any memorials be made to your favorite charity or organization. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
