R.D. SHOCKLEY Obituary

SAN ANGELO ? Franklin R.D. "Bud" Shockley passed away Monday, July 21st, 2008 at his residence at the age of 82 years. He was born on May 26th, 1926 in Breckenridge, Texas, to Frank and Fannie Shockley. He was their only child together, but brought into the world to four half-brothers and three half-sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, E.D. (Bud) Stephens. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Grape Creek Cemetery. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. R.D. married Janelle Barina on December 5th, 1950. They had four children. In the early years, he worked for the City of San Angelo and Palmer Feed and Supply. He then spent 19 years beside Janelle as owner and operator of Shockley Poultry Farm in Grape Creek. He enjoyed retirement and horse trading the last 16 years of his life. He liked plowing, working in the yard and sitting on the back patio having a chaw. Having never finished school, he made a decent living with hard work, common sense and a good wife by his side. PawPaw, as he was known to the family, leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, daughters Linda Stephens of Katy and Diann Bartek and husband Ray of Miles, sons Roy Shockley and wife Nita of Grape Creek and Wiley Shockley and wife Mary of Belton. He also leaves behind grandchildren Cory Stephens and wife Shay, Kevin Shockley and wife Misti, Brandon Stephens and wife Amy, Josh Shockley and wife Amy, Amy Ratliff and husband Chris, Sonja Brunson and husband Blaine, Ashley Baker and husband Charles, Brooke Shockley, Tyler Shockley, Zack Shockley, Laura Puente and husband Ed and Dr. Nathan Graves, along with 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special family friend, Linda Knightstep, as well as a lifetime of friends. He gave good advice and always did what he said he'd do. His word was as strong as his handshake and those that knew him often said "if ole Bud tells you a horse is gonna lay an egg, you better go to the nest". He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. Donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
