Sharon Givens Obituary

BRONTE After a courageous battle with COPD, Sharon Kay (McCutchen) Givens entered into eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, March 26, 2012, with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte, Texas. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at First United Methodist Church of Bronte with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Sharon was born in San Angelo, Texas, on July 10, 1951, to Joe (Binks) and Geraldine (Jerry) McCutchen. She grew up on the family's home place and at their home in Bronte and graduated from Bronte High School in 1969. Other than being a homemaker and rancher, Sharon worked at the First National Bank of Bronte and later the Shannon Clinic in Bronte. The job she was most fond of was helping her sons with their 4-H and FFA livestock projects. She spent many hours and drove countless miles to support them in all their activities. Sharon, being such an avid supporter of the 4-H and FFA programs, was the first woman to be elected to the Coke County Junior Livestock Show Board. She also went on to become the first female president of the board, serving until 2001. She truly was a super mom. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Binks and Jerry McCutchen. She is survived by her sons, Shane Kelton and wife Stacy of Bronte, Shea Kelton and wife Sarah of Kerrville, Reagan Givens and wife Lyndsay of Kerrville; and grandchildren Kyle, Kourtney, Aydan, Adalayde and Adler. She is also survived by her husband and soulmate, Bill Givens of Ingram; Steve Kelton of San Angelo and Craig Taylor of San Angelo; as well as numerous family and friends. Special thanks to the staff of Peterson Hospice for the loving care and friendship they so graciously provided. They are angels. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peterson Hospice of Kerrville or the Coke County Junior Livestock Show Association.

May the beautiful memories that fill your hearts help to bring you comfort. Sharon was a childhood friend who was as sweet as she could be. Her birthday was July 10th and mine is July 6th. Sharon and I would split it down the middle and celebrate on July 8th. She was so adorable. My deepest sympathy to her family.
