Larry Camp

Larry Camp August 29, 1936 - November 5, 2024 Larry Camp, 88, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024 in Fort Worth. Graveside service will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. in Pioneer Cemetery in Graham with Harrell Braddock, Jr. officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Larry was born on August 29 1936, in Newcastle, to Mary Sue and Lee Camp. He married Pearlene Burnes March 30, 1956. He started Camp Construction Company in 1957 at the age of 20. In 1959 they moved to Graham. He worked in construction for the next 27 years building Churches, Funeral Homes, Banks, Post Offices, Clinics and general commercial buildings as well as a few houses. He loved the unusual and unique projects. Special projects included restoring to original the Officers Quarters, the Hospital and the Ammunitions building at Fort Richardson in Jacksboro. He also built the visitors center there. Along the way he built 3 large Exhibits including a Lions Den and a Giraffe bridge at the Nelson Park Zoo in Abilene, a water works plant in Tye, Texas and even a section of railroad in Mineral Wells. He was the Founding President of The Friends of The Library in Graham, served as President of the Concert Association for 1 season, worked with the Boy Scouts for approximately 15 years, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Lions Club and the Rotary Club at various times and served as a 'Red Coat Greeter' when the group was first created by the Chamber of Commerce.

In 1979 he built a small Shopping Center in Graham and Pearlene decided she would like to have a small gift shop and picked out her space in the center and named it The Acorn Shop. First trip to market the shop became a furniture store. Larry joined the new endeavor and his sons, Rand and Jeffery took over Camp Construction which was active until 2020. He continued to design and draw plans for houses and commercial buildings, went to school and earned his State Registered Interior Designer License. He and Pearlene continued in the furniture store and interior design known as The Acorn until 2007. Larry was a Christian, loved The Word and thru the years taught Bible classes in the Methodist Church, The Assembly of God Church and in a Non-Denomination Church. In addition to teaching he also wrote about The Word.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Joe Dale at only 8 years of age, his parents Mary Sue and Lee Camp, a sister Louise Hargrove, brothers Buddy Camp & Bobby Camp, nephews Eddie Hargrove and Brian Camp.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, sons and daughters-in-law Rand & Kris and Jeffery & Holly, five much loved grandchildren, Katharyn and husband Stephen Ledenbach, Mason, Meghan and husband Hayden Austin, Jacob and Nathan and numerous nieces and nephews.
