Percy C. Browne, age 90, departed this life Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025.
Percy was born on Sept. 17, 1935, in Leicester, England, to Archibald and Florence Browne, and spent the majority of his life in Florida before finding solace and joy in the mountains of North Carolina, where he resided at Fontana Dam.
Percy was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Marian Browne, with whom he shared more than 61 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family that includes their cherished children: Michele Browne, Andrew Browne and Stephanie Rude.
Percy took great pride in being a wonderful husband, a dedicated father and a loving grandfather. Family gatherings brought him immense happiness, as he treasured the time spent with loved ones.
Professionally, Percy was a skilled mechanic by trade, known for his remarkable talent in working on projects that sparked his interest. His love for the outdoors was evident, particularly in his passion for cycling and he derived joy from the beauty of nature. Beyond his many hobbies, music held a special place in his heart, with his guitar serving as an instrument of joy and expression. Percy will be remembered fondly for his warm demeanor and genuine kindness. He had an innate ability to connect with people, fostering friendships with ease and creating lasting bonds with those fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Marian Browne; daughters, Michele Browne and Stephanie Rude; son, Andrew Browne; son-in-law, Joseph (Joe) Rude; daughter-in-law, Michelle Browne; brother-in-law, James Pole; grandchildren: Joseph (Joey) Rude and spouse Sarah Rude, Jonathan Rude, Joshua Rude and Aaron Browne; and great-grandchild, Amelia Rude.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Georgie Turner and Shelia Pole.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Percy C. Browne took place at noon Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home Murphy Chapel. The Rev. Jim Payne officiated. Family, friends and all whose lives were touched by Percy were encouraged to attend and share in the moment of remembrance.
