Helen Morgan, age 102, departed this world peacefully on Nov. 23, 2021, in Roswell, Georgia, at her daughter and son-in-law's home. Born in Remus, Michigan, she was the fourth of seven children of Alonzo Johnson and Martha Harris Johnson.
At an early age, Helen accepted Jesus as her savior and was baptized in Lake 6, Remus. Her family attended Wheatland Church of Christ, and she was active in the choir.
In 1937 she graduated from Remus High School. Helen married Otis Guy of Blanchard in 1939, where they resided, helped with the family farm and attended Trinity Wesleyan Church. They were blessed with three children: Patricia, Lewis and Bonna. Tragically, Otis passed in 1957, and Helen began providing as a housekeeper. She later studied at Alma College to became an LPN and worked in Mount Pleasant.
In 1966 Helen rewed Hudson Morgan of Grand Haven, where they raised Bonna. They attended Spring Lake Wesleyan Church. Helen was employed at North Ottawa Community Hospital and retired in the late 1980s.
Hobbies included gardening, canning, and hosting friends and relatives at her home. Everyone enjoyed her apple pies and hospitality. Even at 101, Helen insisted in writing notes to those that she loved. She also cherished the O.S.R.A. and was one of the historians for the original Old Settlers Book. She was honored in 1984 for scholarship contributions. Helen was the reigning queen for over 10 years. She attended the first Old Settlers Reunion in 1934 and only missed two.
In 2010 Helen relocated to Remus to be close to her oldest children, Patricia and Lewis. In 2018, age 99, Dennis and Bonna Rice (daughter) and grandson Dalton moved her to their home in Georgia.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings: Theodosia, Albert, Friley, Thelma, Leverette and Olie; husbands, Otis Guy and Hudson Morgan; daughter Patricia Guy Burns; sisters-in-law: Audra Lett, Getrude Smith, Winifred Johnson, Hazel Johnson, Helen Johnson, Florence Morgan; brothers-in-law: John Smith, Levi Lett, Arlo Guy; and son-in-law, Alfred Burns.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her son Lewis (Cindy) Guy;; daughter Bonna (Dennis) Rice; special neighborhood son Allen Tucker; brother-in-law Harold (Mary) Guy; sister-in-law Carolyn Guy; grandchildren: Dawn Burns, Loran Burns, Sherry Burns, Terry Guy, Gina Guy, Dalton Rice; great-grands: Cameron Burns, Adrianna Burns, Gabriel Burns, Christopher Guy, Roderick Guy, Jonathan Guy; great-great-grands Sophya Guy and Beauregard Guy; and special guarding angels, Arlene (Mike) Burns and George (Sharon) Crawford.
