Kenneth Reinshuttle

Ken Reinshuttle, age 72, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, after courageously facing a series of medical challenges with strength and grace.
Born on May 16, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ken was the beloved son of Robert and Helene Reinshuttle. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and went on to attend several universities before earning his degree from Ferris State University.
Ken began his professional life as a dedicated teacher in the Grand Rapids Public School System. His passion for education and advocacy led to a distinguished 32-year career working in teacher labor unions across three states. He served in various leadership roles, most notably as Executive Director of the Fairfax Education Association, where he spent 13 years making a lasting impact on educators and public education policy.
Ken's dedication to labor and public service later brought him to Washington, D.C., where he served as Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Labor. His work at the national level reflected his lifelong commitment to fairness, workers' rights, and educational equity. He retired in 2019. In retirement, Ken embraced the joy of travel with his beloved wife, Ethel, exploring more than 40 countries together. He cherished time with his family-especially his grandchildren-and was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. Whether lending a hand or sharing a story, Ken lived fully and gave freely.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Ethel; his children, Austin Reinshuttle (Michelle) and Lauren Reinshuttle; his stepchildren, Keane and Koreen; and two adored grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Reinshuttle and Steve Reinshuttle (Shelly). Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helene Reinshuttle, and his wife Lisa.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am, prior to the funeral Mass at 11:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Ken Reinshuttle's legacy of service, compassion, and commitment to education and labor advocacy will be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.
