David Mattson

1947 - 2025

David Mattson, age 77, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at his home.

David was born in Biwabik, MN to Walter and Harriet Mattson. He graduated from Embarrass High School and continued his education at multiple training seminars for large equipment repair. On January 11, 1969, he married Linda Wagoner. They lived in Algenrodt, Germany where he served in the Army. This is where their daughter, Sherry, was born. They returned to Tower, MN while he worked at Reserve Mining in Babbitt. Their son, Chris, was born while they lived in Petersburg, VA, where he worked as a mechanic for a trucking company. They moved back to Tower in 1974, and David worked at Road Machinery in Virginia, MN. He moved to Grand Rapids, MN where he worked for Casper Construction until he retired.

On August 12, 1995, he married his current wife, Janet. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing dice games and going to local casinos. He looked forward to his and Janet's trips to Laughlin, NV. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion.

David is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cynthia; and brother, Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Sherry (Larry) Floria; son, Chris (Wynn) Mattson; stepsons, David (Barb) Gibeau, Brian (Tracy) Gibeau, Michael (Christy) Gibeau, Daniel Gibeau and Paul (Kim) Gibeau; sister, Virginia (John) Dahl; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Davids life will be held at Rowe Funeral Home on Monday, October, 13, 2025 beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will be held at Itasca Calvary cemetery at 1:15 PM.
