Harold Leland Snyder, age 91, Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at his home.
Harold was born in 1931 in Grand Rapids to Clyde and Hazel Snyder. He is the youngest of 13 children. Harold started his career as a carpenter, then worked in the mines before joining the Grand Rapids Police Department in May 1956, same day his first child was born. He served with the department for 31 years, including 10 years as Chief of Police. Harold married Gloria Antilla on September 18, 1954, and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary last year. During his retirement, Harold traveled and spent the winter months in Texas. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sports and activities with great enthusiasm. Additionally, he relished in the joys of camping and spending time at the cabin, making the most of his time in the great outdoors. Harold was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2469, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge #208 A.F. & A.M.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Donald Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, Leland "Lee" Snyder (Jackie Lawson); daughter, Shelley (Michael) Bowers; grandchildren, Nick Snyder, Derek (Lynn) Snyder, Chanelle (Tristin) Steinwand, Donnie (Jenny) Wilson, Scott Wilson (Anna Freerks), Michelle (Tom) Happy, Ashley (Kyle) Nesset, Ryan (Nicole) Bowers, and Nathan (Huong "Alice") Bowers; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 10 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, following a memorial service at 11 AM. Pastor William Zeige will officiate. Burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery on June 9, 2023, with honors.
