James Bjerkness Obituary
1951 - 2025
James "Jim" Bjerkness, age 74, of Hill City, MN passed away Friday, October 10, 2025, at his residence.
Jim was born in 1951 to Carl and Helen Bjerkness in Crosby, MN. He grew up in the Swatara area. Jim graduated from Hill City, thanks to the help of his future wife, Anne.
Jim was united in marriage to Anne on May 1, 2000; together they built their life in Hill City. Jim began his career as a self-taught mason in 1970. After 50 years, millions of bricks, and miles of concrete, he retired.
He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, poker, cooking, and any sport you could bet on.
In the words of his granddaughter, Izabella, "above all else, Papa loved his kids and grandkids. He took them fishing, hunting, tubing, boating, spear fishing, and made a hell of a bonfire. He was known for his ribs and winning BBQ sauce. His famous line was "cooking with gas.." St. Patrick's Day was the best day of the year for Papa."
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jerry Bjerkness. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Anne; children, Tara Bjerkness, Amy (Matt) Salo, Jill (Jacob) Glunz, Nicole Bjerkness, Christopher (Christy) Bishop, and Jonathan (Genevieve) Bishop; siblings, Barbara Doust, Mary (Ed) Scheldrup, Timothy Bjerkness, and David Bjerkness; 20 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Rowe Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 14, beginning at 2:00 PM and lasting until the 3:00 PM memorial service. Rev. Lonnie Lee will officiate.
