James 'Jim' Raymond Furey
1938-2025
James 'Jim' Raymond Furey was born December 15, 1938 to Chuck and Emoline Furey. Jim passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Monday, March 24, 2025. Jim married Sherry Forney on February 11, 1961. In 1963 they welcomed their first-born son, Mike. Five years later, their family was complete when Joe was born in 1968.
Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. After his discharge in 1965, Jim spent his time as a member of the Teamsters Union. Jim had a passion for football and happily volunteered to coach the pony league football team. When he wasn't working, you could find him out in his boat. If you asked, he would tell you that he could out fish anyone; and it was true ~ he was a great fisherman. He also spent ample time in the woods, never without one of his many Chesapeake Bay Retrievers by his side, unless he was in his deer stand. Anyone who knew Jim were well aware of his love for hockey and that he was the biggest fan of the MN Wild; never missing a game.
Jim was preceded in death by both parents and his older son, Mike Furey. Loved ones left behind to honor his legacy include his wife, Sherry Furey; son, Joe (Jess) Furey; sister, Ruth "Annie" (Jack) Grandy; grandchildren, Nicole (Joe) Wirhanowicz, Kyle (Jeanna) Furey, Rochelle (Justin) Lewis, Kristi Furey and Amanda Furey; nine great grandchildren, Devin, Natalie, Kendall, Keira, Layla, Eva, Abryana, Nick and Bohdi and four nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation in Jim's memory on Sunday, March 30, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm at Carroll Funeral Home, 314 Main Ave E, Deer River, MN.
