Dr. Marlyn C. Myers

1935-2025

Dr. Marlyn C. Myers, age 89, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN.

Dr. Marlyn Clare Myers was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on June 26, 1935, the son of Harold Bennett and Mabel Sophia (Sorum) Myers. He graduated from Remer High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Air Force and became a Crew Chief. While in the Air Force, he was named a Golden Gloves Lightweight Champion at 112 pounds. Marlyn served four years and was discharged in November 1957. After the Air Force, he also spent four seasons on the Great Lakes Ore Boats where he earned his U. S. Merchants Marine Document. He then spent four years of General College, followed by four years of Northwestern Chiropractic College in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In November 1969, Marly was united in marriage to Sharon Vanatta in Cohasset, Minnesota. In 1970, they moved to Paullina, Iowa where he practiced for 10 years. In 1980, they moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota where he practiced for 12 years.In 1992, the family moved to Grand Rapids and Dr. Myers took over the practice of Dr. Lindberg where he worked until his retirement in 2015 at the age of 80.

As a youngster, Marly grew up in Remer hunting, fishing, trapping, and wild ricing for Myers Furs and Wild Rice. Marlyn was an avid snowmobiler for 40 years and 4-wheeler for 25 years.

Dr. Myers is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon "Sherry" Myers in 2018; his parents, Harold and Mabel; brother, Dr. Gerald Myers of Redwood Falls, MN.

Marlyn is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Cathy Myers and their daughter, Sara Gilster of Park Rapids, Minnesota; and his daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Rob Esler and their children, Nathan "Nate" Esler and Marli Esler of Zimmerman, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Gloria (Jon) Hagen of Redwood Falls, MN and Debbie (Jerry) Snetsinger of Cohasset, MN; and three nephews, Fred Myers, Courtney Myers, and Tony Snetsinger and niece, Jennifer Overbye.

Per Dr. Myers wishes, no funeral services will be held.
