Meredith "Merdy" Jakovich
1936-2024
Meredith "Merdy" Jakovich, 87 of Prairie Lake, died Saturday, April 27, 2024, in her home. Born November 13, 1936, in Grand Rapids, she was the daughter of Wayne and Helen (Dahl) Hayes. A lifelong Bovey area resident, she was a 1954 graduate of Greenway high school. Merdy was a graduate of Itasca Junior College and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Merdy was a multi-talented musician and served as the Bethel-Trinity Lutheran Church organist for many years, participated in the city band, and was a teacher in the Greenway District for many years and also gave piano lessons. She was a member of the Bethel-Trinity Lutheran Church of Bovey and a very active member of the women's group. Merdy was also a member of the Greenway Alumni Association, the Greenway Hall of Fame, the Serbian Sisters, was a very active community volunteer, and helped George on many of his projects. Merdy and George Jakovich were married on July 3, 1959, in Duluth. Her parents, Wayne & Helen Hayes and her son, Barry preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, George; son, John; grandchildren, Andree, Marco, and Sasha; and brothers, Grant (Marge) Hayes and Keith (Pat) Hayes.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service on Monday, May 6, 2024, in the Bethel-Trinity Lutheran Church of Bovey. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
