Roger Coats Obituary

Roger M Coats passed away peacefully in his home on September 30th, 2025. Roger was born in Traverse City, Michigan to Jeff and Marion Coats in 1946. Roger is a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served his country as a young man. He lived in Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, and finally in Indiana. Though he stuck to the Midwest, Roger spent most of his working life as a truck driver and drove to and from states all over the country.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, quick trips to the casino, cups of coffee and desserts with lots of sugar, long drives with no real destination, and spending time with his family. In his later years, Roger would tell anyone and everyone about his Sunday suppers with family as he and his wife Sandy moved closer to his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

To know Roger was to know what love, laughter, and a life well lived looked like on a daily basis. He gave us many stories, poorly sang songs, long conversations around the dinner table, hugs, and kisses to remember him by.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandy; his children, Carri (Joseph), Rick; his grandchildren Kholby, Kaylynn (Antonio); and his great-granddaughter, Cleo.

A small gathering will be held at Evergreen Knoll Cemetery in Talmoon on Saturday, October 18th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. to honor Roger's life as well as his time in the service. Family and friends are welcome to congregate at Hayslips in Talmoon afterwards.
