Yvonne L. Nix (Lindgren)
1944-2024
It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the passing of Yvonne Lenore Nix, age 79, on January 14, 2024. She passed away peacefully at Mala Strana Healthcare Center in New Prague, MN with her loving family at her side. .
She was born in Deer River, MN, attended college at Bemidji State University and received her teaching degree. She taught third grade for 30+ years in Swatara and Hill City before returning to the University of Minnesota to receive her Master's Degree in Special Education.
Yvonne loved the lake, beach and the ocean. After receiving her Master's Degree, she received an opportunity to move to California and teach Special Education, which was a dream of hers. She officially retired in 2005.
Yvonne had a heart of gold and a smile that was contagious. Her family was her everything and she was a very proud Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She enjoyed everything about the outdoors which included cross-country skiing, camping, fishing and canoeing. She also enjoyed reading, writing and playing the piano or keyboard and knitting. She put up a great fight in life the past few years; however, lost that fight with Parkinson's Disease.
Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Traci Richardson (Jerry Winterroth); grandson, Ryan Richardson; great-grandson, Ryson Richardson; sister, Karon Stejskal; niece, Tammy Jerry and nephew, Tim Jerry.
She is proceeded in death by her beautiful mother, Minnie L. Lindgren; father, Vernon Lindgren; son, Shawn Nix; brother, Terry Lindgren and brother-in-law, William Stejskal.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mala Strana, especially her favorite nurse, Sheila, who watched very closely over her. Also, a big thank you to the staff at Brighton Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 26th at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. The family will have a private burial at Olivet Cemetery, Deer River, MN immediately following.
