Roberta Simon Obituary

Roberta Kay Simon
7/21/1938-2/10/2017

Roberta Kay Simon, known as Robbie or even Bert in her younger years, went to be with our Lord the morning of Feb. 10, 2017. She was born on July 21, 1938 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Robert (Bob) and Alice Murray. Robbie was a high school graduate of Vernon Consolidated outside of Renwick, Iowa and attended Business College in Des Moines. She worked as a secretary in Washington DC and the midwest before heading out to California. She met her future husband W. Robert Simon there and they settled in San Jose. Robbie worked for Kaiser Permanente for many years before she and Bob retired to Auburn, Calif. Robbie was always a joyful, outgoing and social person. She loved her friends, family, music, gardening, and her church. Being with her and hearing her laugh was uplifting for all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters; Patricia of Modesto, Calif. and Jean of Portland, Oregon; brother Richard of Hudson, Florida; a niece Jennifer of Indianapolis, Indiana and a nephew Benjamin of Elgin, Illinois.
A Memorial Service celebrating her earthly life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 at Pioneer United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church toward a memorial fund in Robbie's name.

We take comfort in knowing that we now have a special guardian angel to watch over us. Small in size, but huge in heart. We will miss Robbie's ready smile and laughter. She brought joy wherever she went; heaven must be a little more joyful today.

My heart is broken and yet rejoices. No more pain to bare. For over 15 years Robbie was a shining example of faith and finding the joy through struggle for me. Her laugh so infectious, her hugs so strong. I loved singing with her in the BLC choir all those years ago. I will miss you dearly sweet Robbie.

A great woman to have known, along with husband Bob ... her charm, ready laughter, dogged determination, and encouraging demeanor are traits that made for a life well lived. She loved her Lord and Savior and is enjoying the view today. Miss you Robbie!

The Auburn Interfaith Food Closet was the beneficiary of the generosity of both Robbie and her husband Bob. Robbie had a sweet heart and she will be missed. For many years, Bob served as the Facility Manager for the AIFC and he spent many hours "fixing and repairing" the Food Closet. Robbie was his greatest supporter and continued to support us in his memory. We are glad we had the opportunity to know them both.

I was please to have been in touch with Roberta when caring for her wonderful mother, Alice @ Oakwood Village. Roberta was always positive, smiling and a dear individual. She played her clarinet in the Gold Country Band which also was highly entertaining and reminiscent of their music with our older adults that shared their wonderful spirit. Roberta was an amazing person with an aura of gold!May she rest in peace.
