Helen Lerohl, 91, of Sacred Heartpassed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Avera Granite Falls Hospital. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at Wang Lutheran Church. Visitation was held on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls and continued one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Helen Marie Lerohl was born April 4, 1933, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Bert and Alma (Holton) Olson. She was baptized at Camp Release Lutheran Church and confirmed at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She attended school in Granite Falls and graduated from Granite Falls High School with the class of 1951.
Helen continued her education at Concordia College, Moorhead, and Minnesota State University in Mankato where she earned her teaching degree. She went on to teach at Sacred Heart Public School in Sacred Heart for over 35 years.
Helen was united in marriage to Robert Lerohl on December 22, 1956, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm in Wang Township, Renville County, for 67 years until her death. Together they raised three children - Jan, Patricia and Peter. Helen was a life member of Minnesota Education Association, National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was very active at Wang Lutheran Church serving in Ladies Aid, Church Council, choir, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of Building Bridges Memory Choir, Sons of Norway, Valdres Samband and Golden Grands at the KCC. Helen was an avid reader, enjoying poetry, history and music. In her retirement years, she and Robert enjoyed traveling to historic and scenic sites and visiting family. Favorite places to visit were Norway, Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Grand Marais.
She is survived by her husband Robert; children: Jan Lerohl of Granite Falls, Patricia (Steve) Lerohl-Morgan of Crystal, and Peter (Angela) Lerohl of Elk River; grandchildren: Kirsten Lerohl of Minneapolis, John (Natalia) Lerohl of New Hope, Patrick (Jadie) Lerohl of East Bethel, Christopher Lerohl of Minneapolis, great-grandchildren: Elijah and Jason Lerohl; sister Beverly (Raymond) Frankenfield of Minnetonka, sister-in-law Donna Olson of Granite Falls and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Randy Olson, Bernice Schmidt, Arden Olson and Kermit Olson. Blessed be her memory.
