Robert Clagett Obituary

Robert Thomas Clagett, 93, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at his home.
Dr. Bob, as he was popularly known, was born on April 18, 1923, in Leitchfield to Clarence Keith and Celia Tucker Clagett. He was married to Nichola Elizabeth Green on Dec.10, 1944. She died Oct. 4, 2003, after nearly 59 years of marriage.
After attending Western Kentucky Teachers' College in Bowling Green, he took his dental education at University of Louisville School of Dentistry, graduating in 1946. Dr. Clagett practiced dentistry in Elizabethtown from 1947 until 1993. From 1952 to 1954, he also served in the U. S. Navy Dental Corps.
He served on the Board of Directors at First Citizens Bank for 27 years, and was a past member of the Kentucky and American Dental Association.
Dr. Bob was a prolific artist, craftsman and tinkerer. His paintings are too numerous to count and many of them are located in homes and buildings throughout the area. He especially enjoyed carving birds from wood and painting them so that they appeared to be ready to fly away. He was equally adept in creating realistic fish from wood. He hand painted four displays for Christmas in the Park. He was actively working and supporting the Brown Pusey House, and involved with scouting.
He is survived by three sons: Dr. William Thomas Clagett (Joan), Terry Keith Clagett (Harriett), and Dr. Dan Ray Clagett (Barbara), all of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren, Bill Clagett, Jennie Gray, Bobby Clagett, Terry Clagett II, Lee Clagett, Ryan Clagett and Courtney Burton; and 15 great-grandchildren -- and expecting another.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, April 30, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, with Pastor David Gooding officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to the Bridge Community Church.
