A memorial service with military honors is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel, with private burial at a later date. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Alvin was born May 1, 1928, to Gottfried and Ottilia (Mertz) Schmidt in Marsh, Mont., in Prairie County. He was raised and educated in the Marsh/Mildred area, graduating from Mildred High School in 1946. He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952, and was stationed mainly in Guam and Germany.
