Ann Pierce Obituary

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. - Former Great Falls resident Ann Marie (Jardine) Pierce, 86, a retired homemaker, died of heart failure Saturday at an assisted-living facility in Lake Oswego, Ore.
At her request, no funeral is planned. A celebration of her life is 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Oswego Lake Country Club, with scattering of ashes at a later date on the Oregon coast near Salis-han. Autumn Memorial Services of Lake Oswego is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Zahniser of Lake Oswego; sons, Chris (Ann) Pierce of Portland, Ore., and Lawrence "Chip" (Christianna) Pierce of Lake Oswego; a sister, Shirley (Jardine) Jacobsen of Great Falls, Mont.; six grandchildren; and a special "almost sister" cousin, Barbara Hughes of Great Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence A. "Lonnie" Pierce, on March 24, 1983; her parents, Arthur S. and Leda (Wilke) Jardine; and a special uncle, Conrad Wilke.
Ann was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Great Falls, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Great Falls High School's Class of 1942. She received an associate degree in 1944 from Colorado Women's College in Denver, and attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., in 1946.
Ann worked for a short time at the Rocky Mountain Fire Insurance Co. in Great Falls, then at Huntsberger-Bricker Insurance Agency prior to leaving to enroll at Stanford University. It was at Stanford that Ann met Lawrence A. "Lonnie" Pierce, the love of her life. They were married March 25, 1950, in Carmel, Calif.
Ann actively participated in her children's activities; then became involved in various charitable and philanthropic endeavors. A long-time supporter of the Oregon Symphony, she was for 40 years a member of the Oregon Symphony Auxiliary, and had served as president of that group. She was a member of the Town Club in Portland, the Waverly Club and the Oswego Lake Country Club. She served several years on the Salishan Leaseholder Board; the family had a beach house in Salishan.
She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and Scrabble; in past years, golf and tennis, and particularly enjoyed time at her beach house with family and friends.
Ann was a wonderful and sup-portive wife, mother and grandmother; she was a generous and loyal friend. She often said that good fortune had smiled on her. Ann enjoyed a long life, and she leaves us with many happy memories.
Memorials are suggested to Glenfair Elementary School in Portland, Ore., where her son Chris teaches the children of many low-income families, c/o Chris Pierce, 4334 N.E. 32nd Place, Portland, OR 97211; or the C.M. Russell Museum, 400 13th St. N., Great Falls, MT 59401.

I heard of Ann's passing today and want to extend my sympathies to the family. Ann and I were Tennis partners at Mountain Park, Ann was tall and i was short, we made a great team. We also played a lot of Bridge together. The years flew by and we moved a lot, but I always thought of her and tried to keep in touch. She was a wonderful and delightful friend. Now she and Lonnie can get together again . She will be missed. My prayers go out to your family. Know she was loved by all her friends. Lois Fisher in Eugene

I am sending my prayers for you all in the loss of your dear mother. I knew Ann from times at the beach where we both
had a home, lunches at the Town Club, but mostly at Waverley. She was the first person I played with in the ladies group; I was so nervous, but she said, "remember, this just a game, so kick the ball if you don't like your lie".
What a great friend she was. It was a priviledge to know her. Adrienne Tromley, Lake Oswego

I will always remember your mom as one of the most gracious and kind mothers of the Lake Oswego teen gang. So many fun times at your house, where she watched out for us during our stupid antics, but from a distance, never with judgement. If she got mad, it must have been after we left, because all I remember is her great smile and laugh. I'm sure she's smiling down from heaven with 'Tiger', so proud of the family she raised.

Dear Jennifer & Family,
Jennifer and I, and all the Spahr's send our condolences for the loss of your wonderful mother. We all have fond memories of many fun activities on the lake and school related over the years with both of your parents!
