Calvin Squires Obituary

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Fairfield LDS Church. His funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fairfield, followed by burial with military honors at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Croxford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Terri (Gettel); daughter Lissa (Chuck) Ruebush of Mount Vernon, Wash.; grandchildren Ryan, Sarina and Lance Laubach; great-grandchildren Bo and Andraia Laubach; sisters LaDeanne Allen of Augusta, Kay Moser of North Logan, Utah, Vicki Fasbender of Fairfield and Lila Herrera of South Jordan, Utah; and a brother, David Squires of Orem, Utah.
Cal has joined his parents, Lile and Georgia; a baby sister, Marsha Rose; and brothers Gene, Don and Ramon.
Calvin was born in St. Helena, Calif., on June 17, 1927, to Lile and Georgia Rose (Marsh) Squires. He was an infant when his family moved back to Montana. He attended school in Cascade, Great Falls and Fairfield; graduating from Fairfield High School in 1945. Cal furthered his education at the University of Montana in Missoula.
In 1955, Cal married Gen Henson; they later divorced. He married Terri Gettel in 1984.
After graduation from high school, Cal joined the Navy and served his country during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1972. Calvin was very proud of his career in the Navy and the many years of service for his country.
After retirement from the Navy and seeing most of the world, Cal returned to live in Fairfield. He farmed, raised sheep, drove school bus and had a rural mail route. The children on the mail route looked forward to the candy that Cal included with their mail.
Cal had a soft spot in his heart for children and animals. Over the years, he cared for many dogs and cats, and his pets always seemed to love him as much as he loved them.
Calvin enjoyed sports, participating in basketball, football, baseball and track during high school, and in later life was a fan of the Fairfield Eagles. After retirement, he spent many summer days golfing with friends and family. Cal was a great dancer, avid reader and listened to the oldies but goodies.
Calvin loved to spend time with Terri and Lissa's family. They traveled together for vacations and family reunions and always had adventures when they got together.
After a head injury from a fall in January, Calvin was hospitalized and in a nursing home for the remainder of his life. His dear, faithful friend and wife, Terri, was with him constantly, caring for him, watching over him, and trying to brighten his days. Terri was a special blessing in Calvin's life, and we are very thankful to her for the kindness, care and love that Calvin received from her.
Calvin loved the small community of Fairfield and all his many friends, young and old. We know you will miss him, and we want to say thank you for being his friends.
Don't forget his smile, his kindness, his twinkly, teasing eyes, and his love for all of you.
We'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places, Cal. God Bless and Keep You.
Memorials are suggested to Bright Eyes Animal Clinic, Box 1342, Choteau, MT. 59422.

To Lady, Vickie, Dave, Lila and families~ You are in my thoughts and prayers. When my Grandma Schmidt died Cal brought his dad (Grandpa Squires) to the funeral. This meant so much to me. A TRIBUTE TO CALVIN CLAYTON SQUIRES, MY BROTHER
Family is what life's all about
Memories sweet and dear.
One whose spirit has reunited
Past generations now so near.
Families wait beyond the veil
Watching o'er those still on earth,
Watchful, guardians on the tower
Knowing each soul's eternal worth.
Dearest brother, yes, I remember
The joy we knew in years now gone
Thanks for your service to our nation
"America" was your favorite song.
Yes, an amazing life we ponder
In this moment of sllent glory
You have lived life to its fullest,
Life and honor,.your milestone"s story.
.-DAVID SQUIRES
