Craig Smith Obituary

Craig Smith

Craig Smith, beloved son, brother, and father, passed away on November 16, 2013. Craig was born September 21, 1959, in Great Falls, Montana, but lived much of his youth in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He graduated from Stevens Point Area High School in 1977 where he played in the jazz band, sang in various choral ensembles, participated in musicals such as "Guys and Dolls", was a letterman on the swim team, and received an award as outstanding accompanist for solos and ensembles. He and his family moved to Great Falls in 1980 and Craig then attended the University of Montana (Missoula) earning a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He returned to Great Falls and worked for Buttrey Foods as well as Pasta Montana where he was the Chief Financial Officer for 14 years. His most recent employment was at the Heritage Inn. Craig was a gifted pianist and singer and loved sharing his gifts with family, friends and the community. He was the church pianist for the first service at First United Church and sang in the choir for many years. He played for many Lion's Club Children's Christmas parties and, with his friend Bob McKinnon (banjo), at various retirement homes and social events in the city. Craig was a member of the Montana Chorale, the Great Falls Symphony, and participated in the Great Falls Junior League Reviews. He treasured trout fishing on the Missouri and bass fishing at Blanche Lake, MN, taking walks along the River's Edge Trail, trying to beat his Dad at Scrabble, and cheering for his Green Bay Packers. He is survived by his parents, Norine and Kenyard Smith, his brothers, Carter (Beth and Gabriel - of Eau Claire, WI) and Connor (Kimcherie, Liam and Keelin - of Louisville, KY), his ex-wife Sharman Tokerud, and his three children, Dacia, Dayton, and Devony, his uncle Earl McCaustland (Norene - of Monticello, IA), aunt Verna Lewison (Paul - of Anamosa, IA) and aunt Linda Boyle (Paul - of Brattelboro, VT) and numerous cousins. He will be missed terribly, but we know he is enjoying making music in Heaven. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 25th, 11:00am, at First United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or the Great Falls Rescue Mission. Croxford Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

I had the pleasure of working with Craig for a number of years at Buttrey and we were blessed to have him sing at the baptism of our children. It has been many years since we left Great Falls but I will always have fond memories of Craig. Our prayers are with everyone in his family. You should know that he blessed many people and will be fondly remembered.
