YUMA, Ariz. - Daniel A. "Dan" Nordlund, 75, a former Phillips County resident, died of natural causes Saturday, April 9, at a health care facility in Yuma.
Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Little White Church in Malta. Cremation has taken place in Arizona and arrangements are being handled by Kirkwood Funeral Home.
Dan, the son of Victor and Sibyl (Penrod) Nordlund, was born July 8, 1935, in Malta. He attended school in Dodson, graduating in 1953. He graduated from Montana State College in 1957. He married Anne Dobson that summer. They later divorced.
He taught school and coached various sports in Inverness and Malta and Warrenton, Ore. In 1971, the family moved to Fernale, Wash., where Dan leased and operated the Riverside Golf Course. In 1990, he went to Shelter Cove, Calif., and built that golf course and was superintendent until 1998. He retired to Yuma in 2000. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, all sports and "4 o'clock" with his buddies in Yuma, but his greatest love was golf.
Survivors include sons Loren of San Francisco, Mark of Bellingham, Wash., and Daran and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, of Burbank, Calif.; brothers John and Jerry and sister Judy Flatt, all of Malta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Vic Jr., Earl "Bub" and Jim; sister Phyllis Nicholson and an infant sister.
