Duane Sargent Obituary

Duane S. Sargent

Duane S. Sargent was born Oct. 8, 1935 in a country home south of Chinook, Mont. to Charles L. Sargent and Stella L. Hall Sargent. He passed away Friday, Oct. 17, nine days after his 79th birthday, of heart failure.

Duane began school at Columbia Falls, Mont., later moving north of Havre and attending Spring Coulee School through the eighth grade. He was very active in 4H, having won many state awards including a scholarship which he had to use in North Dakota because he did not attend high school. He was a self-educated individual who was proficient in plumbing, electrical, mechanics, welding and his number one love: farming and ranching. Duane was a true conservationalist. In the 1970s, Duane ran his own business, Sargent Operating, servicing the natural gas industry on the hi-line. He retired in the mid 80s and returned to full time farming and ranching. In 2000, he retired and moved to Lincoln, Mont. where he loved gardening, berry picking, playing cards and fixing small engines for his many friends. For the past 14 years, he was a "snowbird" and loved 4-wheeling around the Bouse, Ariz. area.

He is preceded in death by his son, Tobin, his parents and a step-mother, Frances Cox Sargent. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Donna Pollard Sargent, son Shane, daughter Monica with son-in-law Mark Goldhahn and grandchildren Zane, Blaze, Izaac and Ezra Goldhahn and Wade Sargent. By Duane's request, he has been cremated and no service is scheduled.

Duane was a great friend and neighbor and he will sorely missed by us in Bouse.
