Elizabeth Angeline "Ann" Gillin

Elizabeth Gillin Obituary

Elizabeth Angeline "Ann" (Thompson) Gillin, 92, of 3212 9th Ave. S., a homemaker and former medical secretary, died of natural causes Sunday at a local nursing home.
Private memorial services will take place at a later date, with burial of ashes in Bogata, Texas. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert Rubin and Lana Hammer of North Carolina; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Julian Kobasziar of Great Falls; seven grandchildren, Sue Scott and Kathleen Reed of Boise, Idaho, Jack Kobasziar and Bob Wigdorski of Great Falls, Jennifer Hammer of Connecticut, Jessica Hammer of North Carolina and Jacquelyn Hammer of California; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Ann was born Dec. 12, 1913, to John and Sarah Ella (Bryson) Thompson, in Bogata, Texas, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Bogata High School in 1932. While growing up, she worked picking cotton on her dad's farm.
She married Herbert Hammer on June 22, 1933, in Paris, Texas. She was a homemaker until his death on April 29, 1958. She moved to Great Falls in 1962 to be closer to her daughter and her grandchildren. She later married Allen Gillin in Great Falls in 1964. He died in 1984.
She worked as a medical secretary for local doctors for more than 20 years.
Ann was a very gentle-natured person and enjoyed pro sports, especially pro basketball when Michael Jordan was playing, and the Dallas Cowboys. She was very talented with her hands, making crafts, crocheting, embroidery and oil painting, for which she received many ribbons at the fair. Ann enjoyed getting together with her friends for their weekly luncheons, gardening and researching genealogy for her family, hunting, camping and spending time at their cabin near Lincoln with her family.
She always had a twinkle in her eye and loved to tell stories and jokes. She was the nurturing person in the family and was a great Southern cook, sharing her many recipes with her daughter and grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Kobasziar; a sister, three brothers and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Big Sky Genealogy Society, 1601 2nd Ave. N., No. 113, Great Falls, MT 59401.
