Jean Scharberg Obituary

Jean Ardell (Harthun) Scharberg, 60, of Great Falls, a former waitress and a homemaker, died of cardiac arrest Jan. 14 at a local hospital.
Her memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Jean is survived by her husband of 42 years, Carl Scharberg; sons Terry (Leann) Scharberg and Cory (Lisa) Scharberg; and a daughter, Karla (Tony) Scharberg Ellis, all of Great Falls; brothers Dennis (Joan) Harthun of Milton, Fla., Danny (Rhea) Harthun of Great Falls and Richard Harthun of Deer Lodge; sisters Verna (Jack) Wilde of Elizabeth, Minn., Luann (Larry) Getchell of Milton, Fla., Joann Ellsworth of Great Falls and Patty Harthun of California; her grandchildren, Amber, Brandie, Casey, Kelsie, Dusty, Kaylee, Colton, Kyler and Laisha; her great-grandchildren, Maddie and Damien; and several nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her good friends Myrna and Blenda.
Jean was born June 3, 1948, in Perham, Minn. Even as a young girl, she worked hard, along with her mother and eight siblings, on their farm in Perham. In 1966, she moved to Great Falls, where she met and married her soul mate, Carl Scharberg.
Jean was known for her exemplary work ethic and dedication to a job well done. She believed in doing things right the first time. She worked for many family-owned eating establishments, as well as the Great Falls school district. She retired in 2003 because of health reasons. Even so, this didn't slow her down. She liked to keep busy and she welcomed the opportunity to spend more time with her family. Her warm, outgoing personality awarded her many lifelong friends, which she greatly valued. She was always first to volunteer whenever anyone needed a helping hand, regardless of the task. She was generous and genuinely concerned for others.
Mom loved it when she was surrounded by her family; her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys. She looked forward to times together, cooking everyone's favorites, celebrating every birthday and holiday or just visiting. She was an immaculate housekeeper, with a flair for decorating her home. Never one to be idle, she and Dad worked together refurbishing camper trailers, and they were a perfect team. One of her favorite pastimes was going to rummage sales. She had a knack for finding the best deals and liked to show off her great bargains. She loved a good craft show and she and Dad did many craft projects as gifts for family and friends. She also liked to travel, and she and Dad made many happy memories, taking trips in their motor home. They were regular visitors to Holter Lake, where they spent summer days enjoying each other's company and meeting new friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Adella Harthun; her father, and her sister, Judy Kelly.
We love you and will miss you always.
