TUCSON, Ariz. - Former Great Falls and Anaconda resident Larry Curtis Enloe, 80, a Montana Air National Guard veteran, died of natural causes Tuesday, March 29, at his home in Tucson, Ariz.
His memorial service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Saguaro Christian Church in Tucson. Burial of ashes with military honors will take place at a later date in Great Falls. Brings Funeral Home of Tucson was in charge of cremation.
Larry, the third of five children, was born in Lewistown, Mont., on Sept. 6, 1930, to Albert and Lorraine Stamper Enloe. He grew up in Great Falls, Mont., and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1948. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the then-College of Great Falls, and a master's degree in chemical engineering from the International Correspondence School.
On March 18, 1951, Larry married Virginia Rose Bechard, and together they had three children: Larry A., Rosemary and Gloria. Larry C. went to work for the Anaconda Co. in 1953, in Great Falls, starting as a laboratory assistant and working his way up to assistant superintendent in zinc leaching. After completing the superintendents' rotation training program with Anaconda Co., Larry and his family were transferred in 1966 to Anaconda, where he became the superintendent of the copper concentrator. Larry continued to work for the Anaconda Co. smelter in Anaconda until its closure in 1980, and then he and Virginia were transferred with the company to Denver, Colo., and eventually to Anamax Mining Co. at Sahuraita, Ariz. Since 1982, Larry and Virginia made their home in Tucson, where he worked for the Pima County Air Quality Control Division as an enforcement officer. He also volunteered with an energy conservation and efficiency organization, weatherizing homes for the elderly.
Larry served with the Montana Air National Guard until 1969, when he retired with the rank of major. He was a member of American Legion, Morgan McDermott Post Number 7, and also of a veterans' organization called the Forty and Eight. He was a Master Mason in Euclid Lodge, Number 58, AF & AM of Montana, and a member of Anaconda Elks Lodge, No. 239.
In retirement, Larry enjoyed visiting family and friends around the country, fishing with old friends in Montana, and was a very talented artist working in stained-glass.
Larry is survived by his wife, Virginia of Tucson; a son, Larry (Rhonda) Enloe of Draper, Utah; daughters Rosemary (Dave) Paszkiet of Tucson, and Gloria (Mike) O'Rourke of Anaconda; brothers Bruce (June) Enloe of Rapid City, S.D., Howard (Margaret) Enloe of Great Falls, and Hugh (Janet) Enloe of Monarch, Mont.; a sister, Shirley (Don) Marxer Roehm of Great Falls; three grandsons, four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lorraine Enloe; and a granddaughter, Sarah Enloe.
