Miles Burd Obituary
A Galata farmer, died in AZ on Oct. 30, 2015. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 14, 2015) at the Galata Lutheran Church. Burial of ashes with military rites at the Galata Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Galata Hall, Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester. Memorials may be given to the "Galata Cabin Fund" at Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp, 603 S. Main, Kalispell 59901.
Miles was born on Dec. 21, 1930 in Traill Co., ND to Charles and Anne (Nygaard) Burd. He grew up on a farm in the Red River Valley and graduated from high school in 1948 at Climax, MN.
He served honorably in the U. S. Air Force from 1951-57. He trained as a helicopter pilot and was awarded the Soldier's Medal & the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Miles married Lou Ann Larsen on May 30, 1955. They settled in Galata where they farmed, ranched, and raised a family of three. In later years they wintered at Springfield in Chandler, AZ.
Miles was active in the community as a member & leader at the Galata Lutheran Church, the Marias River Electric board, the Kellogg Education Extension Program, the NFO, and in the planning and development of the Galata Water District. In later years he created a fund for the "Galata Cabin" at Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Lou Ann Burd of Galata; son, Ron (Kim) Burd of Fargo, ND; daughters, Deb (Dick) Steinbacher of Galata and Nancy (Brad) Tomsheck of Ethridge; 4 grandchildren, Luke Steinbacher, Megan Sudbeck, Erin Schreurs, & Carlye Burd; and sister, Barb (Dave) Kaldahl of Detroit Lakes, MN.

Remembering Miles on the anniversary of his passing away. Funny how the years go so quickly. We look at his picture with that "infectious" smile......makes ya wanna smile back. Our boys remember when he took them prairie dog hunting out in Montana. And the times of alot of laughs when Miles and Lou would come up to Northern Minnesota to visit Alton & Alva Sparby and Wallace and Ione Sparbys. Miles is so happy now in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Miles was a joker & when we were leaving their place he gave us a box to open after we left. It was a funny doll (that showed the moon, ha) to put in the back window , uff. Miles? Ha. We hope you're doing ok Lou, think of you so often.
