Nancy Klick Obituary

Nancy Klick

Augusta - Nancy McLean Klick, an outfitter and life-long resident of Augusta, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.

Nancy is survived by her children, Kathy Robinson, Todd (Jean) Klick, and Kelly (John) Hanson; grandchildren, Tyler (Jen), Leo, and Rosslyn Tash, Katy (Aaron) Griffen, Nora Klick, Kelsey (Will) Ferguson, and Garrett Hanson; great-grandchildren, Sage, Callie, Raelyn, and Lewis Tash; and her friend, Gus, who was so helpful. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; sisters, Mary Faith Hoeffner and Joanne McLean; and her parents.

Nancy was born in Great Falls on May 19, 1936, to Kenneth and Faith McLean. She was the middle child behind two older sisters and two younger brothers. She attended grade school in Fairfield where her family had homesteaded raising sheep and horses, which became her life-long love. Later, her family moved to a ranch on Willow Creek, where she attended school in Augusta. She graduated from Augusta High School.

She, her sisters, and brothers shared many great adventures around the Augusta area. She competed in high school rodeo and was named national high school rodeo champion cutter in 1954, in Rapid City, SD on her favorite horse, Post Toastie.

On May 12, 1956, she married the love of her life, Richard Charles Klick. After a brief honeymoon in Canada, they spent their summers and falls at the K Bar L Ranch. Mom worked hard alongside dad, dedicating her life to the ranch. Making it into one of the finest dude ranches in the country. In the summer you would find her leading trail rides on her paint horse, Bayou. In the fall, she helped dad pack meat from the north fork. The guests were always treated to excellent meals. They enjoyed the recipes so much that a cookbook was made, "Making Your Cooking Klick." No one ever went hungry. Mom and Dad had a beautiful ranch at Castle Reef, where they spent their winter months. They also enjoyed many trips to Arizona and exploring the southwest. Mostly finding nice places by just getting lost.

When not at the ranch, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren at rodeos and basketball games. She might be heard commenting at times about the officiating. Her other passion was buying nice colts from her favorite friend, Nancy Lewis. A month before her passing she attended a horse sale in Dillon and purchased some nice horses for her family.

Nancy loved her community and her church. She was always willing to help someone in need. In later years, she could be found at Castle Reef driving around the lake with her dog, Waggons. Almost every year she would need tires on the Kubota. Her favorite hobbies were being involved with her family and reading a good Baxter Black or Elmer Kelton book.

A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on May 6, 2021, at St. Matthias Catholic Church. A funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 7, 2021 also at St. Matthias in Augusta. Following burial in Augusta Cemetery a reception will be held at the church. Donations in Nancy's honor can be made to Augusta High School for the football field. On behalf of all the ConAgra folk, who had the pleasure of visiting the guest ranch on several occasions, we pass on our deepest sympathy and prayers to the entire Klick Family. The delightful meals, the atmosphere of laughter and the majestic setting, deeply imbedded in the mountains was paradise glore. Nancy and Dick were our friends, they made us all feel welcome and at home. Thanks so much for sharing your lives and good stories with such class. God Bless you all.
