Nicholina Maurantonio Obituary

Nicholina Antonio Maurantonio

- - Nicholina Antonio Maurantonio , "Papa", passed away April 17, 2018 after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. Nick was born and raised in Vaughn, Montana. He was one of seven children to Tom and Lena Maurantonio. After graduation, he joined the Army and then went to work for the Railroad for over 45 years, retiring in 1995. Nick married the love of his life, Barb, in July of 1966 after being apart for over 9 years. They shared a unique and beautiful love story. Family meant everything to him and there isn't a bank teller or grocery clerk that hasn't seen a picture of his granddaughters, Tia and Rosie. He was so proud of them.

Throughout the years, Nick enjoyed being a part of the Lions Club and Eagles Club. He and Barb enjoyed being on bowling teams and camping, and in recent years, they loved spending their winters in Arizona. He loved old cars, good food, fishing, and more than anything, he loved a good poker game. He was known for his stories and jokes, and if you ever heard whistling, that was probably him. He loved his family and his motto was, "Life is about loving and giving". He was always thinking about the other person. He was a simple man with a kind, humble, gentle heart and a true love for people. To know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed by so many.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lena; sisters Rose Dector, Katie Tabaracci, Grace Steffens, Stella Maurantonio; brother Joe Maurantonio. He leaves behind his wife Barb; Nicky, Mike, Tia and Rosie; his brother Mike and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at St Thomas Catholic Church at 10am on Saturday, April 21st , 2055 Woody Drive, Billings, MT with a luncheon afterwards at Smith Funeral Chapel at 304 34th Street West. Donations may be made in his name to the Chloe Lai Scholarship Fund at Saint Francis Catholic School, 2202 Woody Drive, Billings, Mt 59102.

Papa, we will miss you forever but know that you will live on within us. Tia is making the oatmeal cookies and Rosie will always be your "bud forever". Thank you for teaching us about loving and giving!

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. We didn't know Nick for very many years, whenever he would see us, he was so friendly. We met him through Barb, who we knew through school. She was a couple years younger and after she graduated and I finished Beauty School in Gt. Falls, we lost contact or a while. We moved to Oregon and my brothers got us reconnected again, when we came back to Mt. for a visit. They were great people.

Nicky,

I am so sorry for your loss. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to visit with your dad. It was fun to hear about his adventures with my dad, Hank Grismer. I'm sure they are together again having great adventures with Joe.

I still remember as a child how much I liked Nick. He was so very handsome and always laughing or smiling. It is so hard to lose our dads, who will forever be our heros.

Love and prayers for you and your family.
