Rosemary Joramo Obituary

Rosemary Kathleen Kellogg Joramo, 68, of Great Falls, died from complications of heart disease Sunday, Aug. 26, at a local hospital.

A memorial service is 1 p.m., Sunday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 16 14th St. S. Cremation will take place under the direction of Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory.

Rosemary was born Nov. 18, 1943, in Breckenridge, Minn., to Irving (MD) and Nita (RN) Kellogg. She joined three older brothers in the family: Calvin, David and Barry. They lived in Fairmount, N.D., for several years. The Kellogg family moved to Idaho in 1953, where she attended Gem State SDA Academy, graduating in 1960. She then enrolled in Walla Walla College, where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964. During this time, she spent a summer as a fire lookout in Oregon. She then attended medical school at Loma Linda University and graduated in 1968. Dr. Kellogg entered an ophthalmology residency until she met and married U.S. Army Captain Floyd Joramo. Rosemary and Floyd made their home in Missoula while Floyd completed his master's degree at the University of Montana, and they welcomed their first child, Lucy, in 1971. While in Missoula, Dr. Kellogg worked as the acting health officer of the Missoula City-County Health Department and provided well-child clinical support to families in and around Missoula.

Dr. Kellogg then moved to Great Falls with Floyd and their daughter in 1972. They welcomed their second daughter, Lanita, in 1975 and a son, James, in 1977. While in Great Falls, Dr. Kellogg worked as the Cascade City-County Health Department acting health officer, as well as an emergency room physician at Columbus Hospital. She briefly opened her own practice and then provided care for the families of the personnel stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base. She also provided contact care to the communities of Shelby, Anaconda, Plains and many other outlying locations. During the summer, Dr. Kellogg was camp doctor for many years at the Seventh Day Adventist sleep-away camp at Camp Paxson on Seeley Lake. Dr. Kellogg then worked for the hospitals in Cut Bank and Chester until she returned to Loma Linda University in 1993 to enroll in a psychiatric residency.

After completing her residency, Dr. Kellogg returned to Montana and worked with children at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and concluded her professional career providing care at Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs. She retired to Great Falls in 2010.

Dr. Kellogg is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Calvin and David; her son James; and James' son, Kjad.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd of Great Falls, her daughter, Lucy and son-in-law Kevin and their daughter Harper McCarthy of Greenwich, N.Y.; her daughter, Lanita Joramo and her son, Reid Moore of Billings; her brother and sister-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Barry and Eve Kellogg of Walla Walla, Wash.; her brother-in-law Mr. Russell Joramo and his wife Mrs. Jean Joramo of Great Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her innumerable friends from all walks of life and backgrounds.

Rosemary loved dogs of all breeds but especially her "pack" of West Highland white terriers. She also loved cats and kept chickens and horses at times. In her youth, she learned to scuba dive and water ski. She loved her family, Seventh Day Adventist camp-meetings, singing, classical music, organic gardening, reading and laughter. Her lifelong characteristics of patience, intellectual curiosity, kindness, humility and faith will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Rosemary is one of the most amazing people I've ever had the honor of knowing. Her kindness towards others, her sense of humor, just everything about her you couldn't help but love. I will always cherish the year we shared a home in Billings and the good memories of some of our adventures there. My prayers are with all of her family...she will be missed by so many people.
