Ruby Wood Obituary

Ruby Wood

Conrad —Ruby H. (Palmer) Wood - beloved mother,

grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed from us in the early hours of October 1, 2014, at age 96, at Pondera Medical Center Extended Care.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Pondera Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at a later date. Ruby was born to Marie and Wallace Palmer on March 15, 1918, in Ashmore, Montana, (east of Brady). The family moved to Great Falls and Wallace worked as a timekeeper for Great Northern Railroad. Ruby was always proud of Great Falls High School where she graduated in 1936. In April 1941, she married John Andrew Watt Wood in Fort Benton and moved to the family farm east of Conrad. While John was in the Navy, Ruby lived in Helena and worked in the hosiery department at Fligelman's. She worked tirelessly with John on the farm and they raised three children. After retiring from farming, they moved to the Florence and Corvallis areas and ran cattle and horses. They enjoyed being snowbirds, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. Ruby devoted her life to her family and friends. Her special talent of cooking and baking (in the best Palmer girls' tradition) made family gatherings memorable.

Always happy to stretch a meal for anyone that was invited in at the last minute, she never complained if she went without. She loved to visit, kid with others and share a laugh. She particularly loved her cocker spaniels, Blondie, and later Molly, horses, and camping in Glacier Park. The Midway Community activities provided many opportunites for the neighbors to get together for card parties, dancing, and celebrations. Other favorite groups were Cooperative Neighbors 4-H Club, Extension Homemakers Club, and Circle Bible study. Her last years were spent at the Extended Care of Pondera Medical Center. Never one to be idle, she often wondered what she should be doing. The family would like to give special thanks to Pastor Kirk Kestler of the Presbyterian Church, and Dr. Jay Taylor and the wonderful staff at PMC Extended Care. The family is so appreciative of their kindness, friendship, and the exceptional care they provided her over the years.

Survivors include Linda (Steve) Keil and George Wood of Conrad, Carol (Anderson) Wood of Billings, and Julie Wood of Helena; grandchildren Wyatt (Alicia) Wood and Stephanie (Andre) Harris of Conrad, Whitney (Wayne) Linder of Glasgow, and Katrina Keil of Denver; and great grandchildren Alison Harris, Reed Harris, Scarlet Harris, Steele Harris, Dylan Linder, Andrew Linder, and Xavier Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John in 1993, and siblings, Frank Palmer, Lulu Shoup, Irma Corcoran, Robert Palmer, and Lilas ("Lolly") Meyer.

Remember Ruby by making someone's day with a visit.

May your memories overcome the years of suffering you witnessed. I dearly remember staying with Julie when Ruby was using the pressure cooker to process potatoes for dinner. The lid blew off and spewed potatoes everywhere.. We all ran to see what happened and there she was with a smile and a comment about what a mess! Church choir, school events, always supportive of all of us kids. Memories are wonderful.

Linda, George, I knew your dad pretty well, your mom slightly, but know she was a great friend of my Aunt Gladys.
May she rest in peace. Ron Moser
