Scott Dutton Obituary

Scott Allan "Scottie" Dutton, 59, of 2749 Carmel Drive, an Army veteran and retired air traffic controller, died of an aneurysm Tuesday at a local hospital.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at O'Connor Funeral Home. His funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at O'Connor Memorial Chapel, followed by cremation.
Survivors include his wife, Sybil M. (Rauschenbach) Dutton of Great Falls; daughters Heather of Kennebunk, Maine, and Kayla and Kimmie of Great Falls; sons Scott of Kingston, N.Y., and Sean of Great Falls; his parents, Linwood and Anita Dutton of Augusta, Maine; sister Jody (Dave) Soule of Clinton, Maine; brothers Steve (Debbie) Dutton of East Boothbay, Maine, and Jason (Denise) Dutton of Augusta, Maine; and five grandchildren.
Scott was born in Lewiston, Maine, and raised in Augusta, Maine. He graduated from Coney High School in Augusta, and received an associate degree in arts and sciences from Fort Steilacoom Community College in Tacoma, Wash. While in high school, he worked at a local grocery and hardware store.
Scott was in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1975, with tours in South Korea and Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge. After the military, he worked as an air traffic controller until retiring Jan. 4, 2006.
Growing up, Scott served as an altar boy in the Episcopal Church. While living in Walla Walla, he was involved with the Special Olympics and coached Little League and soccer. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed baseball, golfing and skiing. He learned how to ski at the age of 10 with his Aunt Mary and taught his own children how to ski as soon as they could walk. He also enjoyed fly fishing and kayaking, when his wife could talk him into going.
Scott was also a wonderful, caring neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand with computers, clearing snow from driveways, doing handyman work or whatever was needed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Lillian Luttrell, and Theo and Grace Dutton.

God wanted you a year ago,
He gave no warning you had to go.
From us he took the GREATEST man,
Fr you he eased your tired hand.
He gave no chance to say good bye,
So many times out eyes have cried.
Life is hard without you here,
The memories we hold so dear.
We know you're in a better place,
Where angels sing "Amazing Grace,"
So now it's time for you to rest,
cause here on earth you were the best,
Father, Brother, Husband, Friend,
Papa to your grandchildren.
Our lives will never be the same,
They say time will heal this aching pain,
Thank you DAD for all you did,
You made us proud to be your kids.
Untill the time we again shall meet,
Until that time, DAD rest in peace! We love and miss you so much DAD! Love the family........<3 kayla

Dear Kayla and Dutton Family,
I was so saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. It is so difficult to lose a parent. The pain and sorrow you will go through can’t compare to anything you have ever experienced. Your dad was an amazing man and someone that held a special place in my heart. No matter where or when I ran into him, he always had a smile on his face and warm hello and hug for me. He always supported me with my endeavors…no matter how many gold cards he had already bought. Your dad was a special person and he will be missed by all those that knew him. You were truly blessed to have a father like him and I hope you find peace in knowing that he is in a better place. Please let me know if I can do anything. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,

To Scott's Family- I am his cousin ,Jayne. Scott always like to kid around about how he was one year older than me. My sister Martha and I would love it when Scott & Jody came to visit-Our cousins from Augusta. Skiing, playing at the school playground, and eating corn on the cob were some of my greatest memories. What a wonderful person he was. I was so sorry to hear of his death today when I arrived home from vacation. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Dutton Family:

Growing up in Augusta, I knew Scott quite well. He was a very well-liked young man.

We skied nearly every weekend together at Sugarloaf. Danny Hatch built a camp there named The Zoo, where we stayed overnight.

I am sure Scott must have spoken about these times, how he would tend the wood stove all night less the inside temperature turn freezing by morning.

There where about ten of us, at the Depot on Water Street, when Scott boarded the Greyhound for the military. He hoped to be a helicopter pilot. Scott took a window seat and waved good by as the bus glided away from the curb. Feelings about the war aside, we were all very proud of his military service in Vietnam. Scott was a courageous person.

Please accept my sincere condolences. I am sorry to for your loss, that Scott was not granted the length of days he so richly deserved.

As a young man, Scott touched so many of us. I see him in my mind's eye forever young.

Sincerely,

Harvey Augustus Lipman

Dear Sibyl and Family, It is with great saddness we feel at the passing of Scott. Such a loss of a Husband, Father and our Nephew, so early in his life. We remember the time we met you and your family in Cannon Beach, OR and the time we visited you folks with our motor home in Great Falls. Such wonderful memories of his enthusiasm, his gentleness and great love for his family. Our thoughts are with you folks. Uncle Len and Aunt Lee

Sybil - Terry and I are so sorry to hear about Scottie. What a loss to everyone that he came in contact with. His voice reminded me of Bill Murray's brother :o). Take care Sybil. We'll be thinking of you and the rest of your family.

Sybil and Family, we were sorry to learn of Scott's death. When we worked together at the tower I remember him telling about his Mother learning to use a computer and email, he was so excited about it and I thought it was so endearing. He dearly loved his family and will be greatly missed. Scott was a gentle soul.

Scott and I first met in Viet Nam in 1969/70 I believe it was. We worked together at Spartan Tower, I can’t remember who went home first, him or me, just too many years ago I guess. After that we went our separate ways until we were again joined by work at Ft. Lewis Washington’s Gray AAF tower. There, Scott and I worked many an hour together while he was there. Those will be memories I’ll hold and remember for ever, some exciting, some even scary, but we…. he always came out for the better.:)
Scott was always ready to go fishing and we spent many an hour fishing American Lake and other lakes in the area. He was always willing to teach someone else how to fish, my son a perfect example, who also spent a few hours sitting next to Scott. My son is now teaching his son how to fish.
Sybil and kids, we have not had a chance to see each other in quite a few years, but we think of you guys often. Our deepest condolences for the loss of your husband, friend, and father.
Thank you Scottie, you touched people more than you will ever know.

Sybil and Family,
I am Scott's cousin from Maine and was also taught to ski by "our" special Aunt Mary. I am fortunate that she lives nearby and I was able to visit her tonight (along with my Mother, Gloria) and we looked at "old" pictures of Scott and his siblings and shared fond memories.
Our hearts go out to all family members and also to your friends as they no doubt have lost a VERY SPECIAL member of their "circle".
Love to all,
Cousin Martha from Maine
