We grew up in Lamar and started our careers in the newspaper business there. He was a loyal friend. He would take us younger guys to a lot of out of town games since he had a driver's license and car. He was proud of his heritage and always a gentleman. Even though we grew apart in later years, I still regarded him as my friend for life. I think of him often.

Manuel and I worked together at The Lamar Daily News in our hometown. Have a lot of great memories of those times. He always had a good car and would take us younger guys to the out of town sporting events. He was a skilled linotype operator and had an impeccable work ethic. We went our separate ways and in early 1964 Manuel called to tell me there was an opening in at the Tribune. I came here and enjoyed his friendship for many years. Manuel was a good friend and a decent man. My only regret is that we drifted apart these last years. My deepest sympathies to Betty.

I have many good memories of 'Toro' when we both worked together at the Greeley Tribune. Also, we played on the same softball team. He was a good friend, and a loyal employee. My sympathies to Betty and all of his family. Jim Poppe

I am so very sorry to hear of Manual’s passing, I met him when he worked security at the county. Manual was such a wonderful man, a day never went by that I didn’t stop and visit with him, he was such a sweetheart, always had a smile for everyone. My heart goes out to your family. Sending thoughts and prayers to you all. Rest In Peace Manual❤
